New Class & v103 of the Core Rules
Another major update to BEHEMOTH — a new character class, the Wyldmanse Vassal, and an updated iteration of the core rulesbook (v103).
The Wyldmanse Vassal - Arbiter of the Creed of the Perennial Wylds - An arcane trickster, bargaining with fey lords for power and profit!
This character class is a step in a much more fantastical direction for Behemoth — we've now introduced a host of magical fey nobles who dwell within one of the Prismatic Veins. The Wyldmanse Vassal can summon the fey lords to help overcome obstacles, but only so long as it aligns with the fey's schemes. The Wyldmanse Vassal can also enter into Geas Pacts with the fey, gaining powerful boons, but with strange rules attached. I'm interested to see how this class plays out at the table!
What's new in v103 of the Core Rules? Honestly, I'm not 100% certain. Just all the various little updates to the rules that I've made in the past year since v102 was released. Of note, however, is that some of the setting information is finally integrated — sections on the Exile Fleet, and the information on Subsector Czotek. I haven't yet converted Subsector Adranadi into the same format as the rulebook, so it remains a separate document, for now.
BEHEMOTH still has a long way to go, but it's coming together, bit by bit.
What to expect next?
I'll probably be focused more on Shatterkin, over the next few months, but when I get back to Behemoth, my priorities are —
- The last two character classes — the Aetherstrand Muse and the Voidwhisper Operative.
- More complete setting information — additional info about the Exile Fleet, about the technology, about the weird magicky stuff, etc.
- Additional Subsectors — I don't know, for certain, just how many sub-sector guides will be included in the core rules, but the current plan is for three more - Subsectors Harad, Denoch, and Meijo. Alongside Czotek and Adranadi, that will make for five subsectors total. The rest will be left open for each table to discover on their own.
- Isolated Gates — A few spots on the map that have Prism Gates, but aren't a part of a wider Subsector. These will be smaller sections, and more likely to be strange anomalies in space. I've already got one in the works, from a home playtest I did last year.
- Filling in the Blanks — We still have a lot of incomplete sections throughout the Core Rules. Lots to do.
I appreciate your patience as I slowly build this game. I'd love to hear from any of you who have given Behemoth a try!
If you want to talk about the game, or keep up with more regular updates, consider joining the Discord Server I've started for all of my games — it's still small, but hopefully, in time, it will build into a thriving community for these games.
